An Overview of the Grounds of the Park

Front Gate
The front gate is located on the Southern border of park, and allows passage into the
garden via the South Lane. To either side of the lane stands a row of cherry trees,
planted under the direction of the park's original benefactor and namesake,
Mrs. Gertrude Emerald. In early Spring, these burst forth
with a profusion of white and pink blossoms.

Main Conservatory
Within the Main Conservatory are EHG's classrooms, gift shop, and offices. On the East
and West ends of the conservatory lie greenhouse wings which boast a variety of tropical
and sub-tropical plants from Asia, Africa, Oceana, and the Americas.

Main Lawn
Extending north from the Main Conservatory, the Main Lawn is where most outdoor special
events are held.

Community Garden Area
Located near the Southwest corner of the park, each plot in this area is maintained by a member of the local community.

Japanese Garden
To the East of the main conservatory lies the Japanese garden which surrounds a tranquil pond
and is fed by a small waterfall. In the pond, visitors can observe Asian carp and other fish.

Spiral Hedge
To the Northwest of the Main Lawn stands a double-spriral hedge, in the center of which is a
small decorative pool surrounded by a floweb bed.

Picnic Area
Located to the north of the community gardening area and to the west of the spiral hedge, this
area makes an excellent spot at which to stop and have lunch.

Forest Path
The path through the park's Northern woods ends at the Japanese garden to the East, and at
the picnic area at its Western end.

Emerald Hill Overlook
Branching off from the Forest Path is a path leading to the top of Emerald Hill, a spot which offers
exceptional views of the park and surrounding area.
